Services // Office Acoustic

Noise control for your office aims to reduce distractions, lower stress levels for employees and create more time for them to spend on the tasks in hand, all achieved through a carefully managed acoustic landscape.

72% of office workers are dissatisfied with their speech privacy (UCL Berkley study)
59% of employee time is spent trying to do quiet, focused work in one’s own workspace (Bosti Research)
70% of office workers said they could be more productive in a less noisy office environment (ASID Study)
64% of office workers are interrupted up to 20 times a day (Brother Research)

Room acoustics deal with the behaviour of sound in a room.   The behaviour of sound within a room is affected by many factors including the size, shape and materials used in it’s construction.  The surfaces of these materials will help control the way sound behaves and travels. Furniture and layout also play an important role in shaping the acoustic landscape.

How can an office look and sound good?
This is a particular headache for facilities managers and planning teams, as many fashionable materials used in office designs have particularly poor acoustic qualities. The trend for minimalism means hard reflective surfaces such as glass, reflect virtually all noise back into the room. Laminates, wood and marble flooring have similar qualities.  Many acoustic problems occur when all materials are poorly absorbing. By choosing appropriate ceiling and/or softer surfaces like carpet and curtain fabrics much more sound energy will be absorbed, reducing room echo. Advanced materials which allow offices to follow the modern aesthetic trend are also becoming available.  Planning the space with the end user in mind will go along way to creating an acoustically comfortable environment.
