Last week W2W were in Milan for the world renowned furniture fair Salone. As usual all the big players globally were exhibiting alongside a wide variety of other manufacturers. We looked at a lot of chairs on some impressive stands over the week and met with companies doing some very interesting work, to ensure that our furniture range is as comprehensive as possible.
Knoll’s stand was definitely one of the more “interesting” ones. Clad in black PVC and pink neon it was hard to miss, which is just as well because there were some great products on display. The Pilot chair designed by Barber & Osgerby is a classic-in-waiting, Charles Pollock’s Arm Chair is already a classic now being rereleased, but the star piece was surely the Bertoia Side Chair with a plastic seat, an option that will open this classic design to new markets.
LaPalma is an Italian manufacturer producing high quality furniture for over 20 years and W2W are now exclusively representing them in Ireland. Their stand featured some really nice pieces of workplace furniture for meeting rooms, collaboration, workstations and more.
Arper again exhibited in both the office section and in a general hall with a mix of furniture equally suitable for workplace, hospitality or domestic use. The Steeve collection of sofas has all the hallmarks of a classic Arper range; sleek and minimal it blurs the lines between residential and office furniture. The Catifa Sensit range brings all the functionality of traditional office seating disguised within some beautiful chairs.
Of course, not all manufacturers exhibit at the show, some, like Fritz Hansen, prefer to use their permanent showrooms in Milan as a venue for launching new products. Their city-centre showroom was well worth a visit this year. They were launching a series of new products designed by Jaime Hayon: the Fri easy chair and Sammen dining chair, and had converted the showroom into the ultimate Republic of Fritz Hansen apartment.
Unfortunately there were too many exhibitors and new products to detail here but we have seen some great products from our current suppliers, such as Verpan, Dieffebi, Billiani and many more. We have also begun discussions with a number of potential new suppliers with very exciting ranges and we hope to bring you news of this later in the year.
