Clerkenwell Design week is the highlight of every designers year and it’s no different here at W2W. Our Associate Director JP Rust attended along with our Design and Planning team. Needless to say we clocked up a few kilometres on our pedometers, but absolutely worth it. We used this opportunity to visit our suppliers’ showrooms to catch up and view their new products. Below is just a little taster from our few days.
Biophillia is on everyones radar at the moment and it was evident at CDW 2016. Almost every showroom had a strong focus towards biophillia - Shaw Contract ran bonsai cutting workshops with a picnic lunch in the ‘Park’ afterwards.
Copper has been hugely popular this year in all aspects of design, and judging by the presence of copper at this years CDW it will be here to stay for some time. Wire based tables and chairs compliment this trend perfectly giving the products a quirky touch and feel.
Over the last number of years we have seen the emergence of wood gradually appearing on more and more projects, it is no surprise that manufacturers have now taken inspiration from Scandinavian design, we are seeing a lot more exposed wooden legs, and Scandinavian elements introduced this year.
With Scandinavian influence on the rise, the introduction of the EC4 from KI furniture was a standout piece. A fully functional bench style desking system, with integrated cable management – a departure from their typical desking style, combining sophistication, performance and minimalism.
The 18 karat gold plated collections from Knoll were most definitely standout pieces. Created in honour of designers Harry Bertoia and Warren Platner. All extremely eye catching impressive pieces – almost as good as the originals!
Fritz Hansen launched their new chair VIA57 Designed specifically for a new office project in New York. A fresh new style from Fritz Hansen, while still retaining that classic Danish style.
Float is an Irish designed and manufactured collaborative meeting solution. We are delighted to be involved with this product – a collaborative effort between Perch Design and Thomas Montgomery creating an innovative product which will have international appeal. Our MD Gerry Whelan certainly approves!
